Introduction

I qualified from Bradford University in 1995 and have continued to work in the NHS. From 2003, I have also undertaken work within the private sector and have subsequently completed a Masters degree in Manipulative Physiotherapy at Brighton University.

I currently work for an NHS Community Service and am the Clinical Lead for the musculoskeletal physiotherapy services. My areas of particular expertise include shoulder conditions, knee conditions and spinal pathologies. I also have a keen interest in chronic pain management. The majority of my work is directly related to the provision of clinical assessment and treatment of patients. This incorporates my own clinical caseload as well as supervising colleagues who are less experienced.

In recent years, my work as an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist has developed my clinical diagnostic skills and enabled me to broaden my understanding of diagnostics including blood tests and imaging for example x-rays, ultrasound scans, MRI scans and CT scans. This role has also facilitated closer working with other professional groups including GPs, orthopaedic consultants, rheumatology consultants, neurosurgery consultants and pain management consultants.

I am the Lead MSK clinician dealing with complaints and concerns within the Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust. This has involved reviewing the physiotherapy records and medical notes and liaising with patients to ascertain the reason for their complaint. The role also requires the formulation of reports in conjunction with the complaints team and Chief Executive to answer the patients concerns. In cases where there has been evidence of clinical standards falling below the expected service levels then it is my responsibility to undertake root cause analysis and generate a report thereafter.

I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
