BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy
- Hand Therapy
I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1997 from the University of Teesside and have worked mainly in the clinical field of Trauma & Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Burns & Plastics.
I specialised in the assessment and treatment of clients with orthopaedic conditions ranging from elective orthopaedic surgery to complex trauma injuries including limb amputations, hand injuries and severe burns.
I have a particular interest in hand rehabilitation and worked as a Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist/Extended Scope Practitioner in Hand Rehabilitation, at a regional trauma unit in Middlesbrough. This role involved treating outpatients, fabricating bespoke splints (dynamic and static) and being involved in work based assessments.
Between 2004 and 2013, I was responsible for the management of the Occupational Therapy department and Orthotics Services at Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In this role, I provided professional leadership and management to a team of twenty eight Occupational Therapists. I continued to maintain my clinical skills by accepting Occupational Therapy referrals for complex trauma & orthopaedic patients, and general medical & surgical patients.
I am currently an Independent Occupational Therapist. My role involves:
• Self Employed Private Hand Therapist/Occupational Therapist.
• Associate Occupational Therapy Expert Witness Work for Somek & Associates.
• Associate Trainer for Somek & Associates.
I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses. I also have Court Room experience.
