Introduction

I qualified as an RGN in 2009. My nursing career has encompassed both primary and secondary care gaining many years of experience delivering advanced, palliative and fundamental care to adults. I have gained professional experience in many areas of nursing contributing to excellent advanced nursing knowledge and continued professional development in management and leadership. My professional interests include primary care, domestic violence, and the medicolegal arena. I do have previous experience in critical care, long term invasive ventilation, spinal injuries, and emergency care.

Currently, I am a director of my company JP MEDASSIST LTD providing locum Advanced Clinical Practitioners to primary care services. I am also the Clinical Lead for domestic violence covering North Wales training all clinicians in primary care on the IRIS program for domestic abuse.

In addition to managing my company I also personally undertake clinical duty in general practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner / independent prescriber and research facilitator. I continue to teach my own staff and the staff I encounter at the surgeries I work with on request. Furthermore, I also offer a consultancy service to GP surgeries identifying areas for improvement from clinical delivery to policy.

Prior to establishing my independent company, I worked as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and research lead in General Practice and helped gain the practice a level 2 research affiliation awarding us one of the top 10 GP practices in Wales.

Before this I worked in secondary care as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in the critical care environment caring for patients’ hospital wide with life threatening and urgent care complications ensuring the right treatment at the right time. Within this role I managed a team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners and developed a training package for hospital and primary care doctors and nurses on the deteriorating patient. As a team we were the awarded winners in the category of improving patient safety in the Welsh Health Board awards.

I have also gained experience as a specialist long term invasive ventilation team leader, leading a team caring for patients with spinal cord injuries in the community. This role enabled me to provide packages of care to hospital patients, transferring them to their own homes with a 24-hour care package, promoting quality and dignity of care. Within this role I was awarded as a dignity ambassador by the Welsh Health Board.

I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
