I qualified as an Adult Nurse in 2006 and have gained significant clinical experience mainly working in the emergency and urgent care setting, as a Nurse Practitioner. In this time I have also had the privilege of working in General Practice for 2 years, seeing walk in patients and in Major Trauma for 3 years as the Major Trauma Clinical Coordinator.
As an Advance Emergency Care Practitioner (ACP) in the Emergency Department, I have a wide range of experience working autonomously seeing and treating adults and children, who present either to the major or minor treatment areas, whether that be injuries or illness related. I used advanced clinical decision-making skills, and evidence-based knowledge to assess, treat and diagnose patients, prescribing medication where appropriate. I have expertise in ordering and interpreting x-rays and blood tests, advanced wound assessment and closure, local anaesthesia and ring blocks, joint manipulation and reduction, plastering and splinting of joints.
Whilst working in the Emergency Department I have had the opportunity to be an operational Sister, managing and delivering all aspects of care for highly complex critically ill patients, including major trauma. I managed patient flow through a large emergency department, mentored staff, supported junior doctors in clinical decision making and contributed to the senior nursing team agenda, ensuring and maintaining high standards in the clinical environment. In the Major trauma role, I coordinated the pathway of all major trauma patients from admission, as part of the trauma team, through to discharge. I lead and coordinated the multidisciplinary team (MDT) on Major Trauma ward rounds, assessed and identified complex health and psychosocial needs in these patients.
I have provided and assisted in a range of teaching and education to the wider multidisciplinary team:Foundation Doctors programme in Orthopaedics, Trauma Intermediate Life Support (TILS), assisted on the trauma anaesthetic simulation training and developed and delivered trainee Nurse Practitioner training in the Emergency department and General Practice. I have also had the opportunity to present at a Trauma conference, presenting research findings from a paper I co-authored. I believe professional development through current research is a leading factor to a successful working environment. I have completed additional training in Paediatric Intermediate Life Support (PIls), Trauma Intermediate Life Support (TILS), Major Trauma in Children, Thoracotomy and major haemorrhage training as well as Advanced Life Support with a recommendation to become an instructor through the General Instructors council (GIC).
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
