Introduction

I qualified a registered nurse in 1987 and have since gained a PGDip in Advanced Practice (2011) and a PGDip in General Practice Nursing (2018). Whilst I have continued to expand my knowledge in other areas within the field of general practice nursing my area of special interest is Diabetes. I studied Diabetes Care at Level 7, have undertaken the PrePITstop and PitStop Advanced Diabetes course, the Merit Insulin initiation course, have a Diploma in Cardiovascular Disease and am a Level 7 nurse prescriber.

I have extensive experience of working as a practice nurse in many different GP surgeries, a deliberate attempt to ensure that I gained as much varied experience as possible. I am currently employed as a practice nurse within a GP surgery where I lead on diabetes care and complex case management. In addition to prescribing, titrating and stopping oral medication, initiating GLP-1s and titrating insulin I also manage albuminuria associated with diabetes and hyperlipidaemia. As well as face to face appointments I also run a twice weekly, remote diabetes clinic. My other areas of practice within the surgery are cervical cytology, primary and adult immunisations, contraception, hypertension management, travel health and tissue viability.

I am passionate about delivering a high standard of care and in 2012 I was one of 50 people nominated for the Marie Curie Peacock Award in recognition of 'exceptional contributions in ensuring patients receive the highest quality care at the end of their lives'. Before working at Marie Curie I spent 7 years working in the Health and Social Care sector as a Registered Nurse across a variety of specialities, such as elderly care, learning disabilities, young adults with long term, life limiting diseases and community services. Prior to that I spent 17 years working as a Registered Nurse in medical, surgical, rehabilitation and neurosurgical wards and a high security male prison. I have worked both in the UK and abroad.

I have many years experience working in a clinical lead or management role, am proficient at juggling multiple tasks and working under pressure and have confident leadership and relationship-building skills. I am a strong decision maker and complex problem solver with excellent time management skills. I enjoy taking on new challenges.

I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
