BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy
- Adults with neurological conditions, including brain injury, stroke & long term conditions
I qualified as an Occupational therapist from Southampton University in 2003. I am an experienced Occupational Therapist in the area of neurology, specialising in acquired brain injury, stroke and long term neurological conditions.
My main area of expertise is in the assessment and treatment of clients with cognitive, physical and behavioural difficulties as a result of their injuries and I have over 13 years’ experience of working within the field of neurology. My experience includes working in acute hospitals, rehabilitation units and providing community rehabilitation both in the public and private sector. Prior to specialising in Neurology I have gained experienced in the areas of paediatrics, forensic mental health, acute surgery / medical and elderly rehabilitation.
I have worked in the private sector alongside the NHS since 2009 and left the public sector to work independently in 2011. I currently work as a consultant specialist Neuro Occupational therapist for Krysalis Rehabilitation Consultancy, Reach personal injury services and within my own independent practice. I provide assessment and treatment to adults and young people with neurological conditions and my skills include cognitive and behavioural management, physical rehabilitation, upper limb rehabilitation, seating and posture management, anxiety and anger management and vocational rehabilitation. I also work to identify long-term equipment and environmental needs, including house design and property adaptations.
The large majority of my current role is focused on cognitive and vocational rehabilitation, upper limb rehabilitation and identifying long term equipment and environmental needs, including social and psychological factors in order to predict long term need. This includes liaising with case managers and solicitors to ensure the client’s needs are clearly identified and addressed. Referrals are generally received via case managers and solicitors.
Alongside this, I work as a case manager for children and adults with a variety of physical, cognitive and social needs.
I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
