Amy Wood

Registered Midwife

Qualifications

BSc (Hons) Midwifery

Specialisms

Midwife with particular experience in foetal medicine & screening, termination & bereavement care.

I qualified as a midwife in 2012 and I have worked in all areas of midwifery, including intrapartum, antenatal and postnatal, in both the hospital and community setting.  I began to specialise in bereavement midwifery in 2014, whilst also undertaking the role of coordinator of the delivery suite.  In 2016, I led the bereavement service as a Band 7 and also developed and led the Rainbow service (pregnancy after loss). I continued both of these roles until 2020, when I undertook a secondment in foetal medicine and screening before becoming the Band 7 service lead  in June 2021.   I led the service until January 2024 and I am currently working in and maintaining my core midwifery skills in the Maternity Assessment Unit, the intrapartum areas and antenatal and postnatal care in the Community.

I have extensive knowledge, experience and a passion for bereavement, abortion care, high risk pregnancy, pregnancy after loss, patient safety, foetal medicine and screening, with experience in all areas of midwifery. My experience has included undertaking and completing reports for a number of related bodies including CDOP (Child Death Overview Panel), MBRRACE (Mothers and babies: Reducing Risk Through Audits and Confidential Enquiries across the UK), and Perinatal Mortality Review reports.

I am also trained and experienced in gaining consent for post mortem and genetic testing, and liaise closely with other agencies and specialities, such as coroners, pathologists, safeguarding teams, palliative care teams and perinatal mental health providers.   I have provided evidence in a professional capacity for legal cases in the Trust setting.

I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
