I am a registered nurse with 15 years experience, a large portion of which has been spent in the Emergency Department. An equally large proportion, however, has been spent as a Hospital at Night practitioner, which has allowed me to gain a much broader experience of acute hospital nursing care than I otherwise would have.

The other aspect of the clinical site manager/Hospital at Night role, was the managerial side of being the most senior person on site out of hours. This role required me to not only act as a clinical resource, but also as a managerial and professional leader.

I am also an advanced life support instructor which entails not only being a clinical expert, but being able to stand up in front of people and speak clearly and facilitate a room and enhance the learning of a group of different professionals.

More recently, I have set up a company providing leadership and culture consultancy to the NHS. I am also working clinically for nursing agencies on a regular basis providing hands on clinical care. My main area of expertise is the Emergency Department, although I am also able to apply my knowledge and experience of conditions gained through 15 years nursing practice and various clinical courses such as the emergency nursing course, trauma course and advanced life support within the acute ward setting.

I have completed courses in advanced assessment, clinical decision making and the nature of physical assessment at degree level. Interventions that I am competent to undertake would be to administer pain relief, advanced wound care, venepuncture and cannulation along with an assessment of whether or not the patient requires intravenous fluids. As part of my ongoing assessment of patients, a knowledge of chronic conditions and their impact is also required.

I have always considered myself as a role model and an exemplary leader. By exacting high standards myself, I have engendered fellowship in my teams to do the same. I am articulate, with excellent communication skills both written and verbal, I am aware of the standards as laid out by the NMC for documentation, professionalism and conduct, and am able to ascertain when they have not taken place to a proficient degree. I have attended NMC hearings and coroners courts for my own education, and have facilitated my staff doing the same.

I am currently undertaking an MSc in advanced practice (leadership) and am pursuing the publication of one of my essays.

I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
