    I qualified in 1995 and am a highly skilled Registered General Nurse with over 18 years of experience in the field of acute and primary care nursing. I am a specialist nurse in the field of Telephone Triage, with both NHS Direct/ 111 and within the Emergency Control Centre and I have significant experience in leading the training in and utilising five differing clinical decision support software systems. I have worked at a national level assisting in the development of the NHS Direct National Service. I have specialist skills in the telephone triage of patients with differing clinical presentations including those with mental health concerns and other specialised areas such as paediatrics.

     I have worked as a Call Centre Manager and a Clinical Nurse Manager where I have been instrumental in the facilitation of the 'Clinical Support Desk' which provided a nursing presence within the Emergency Control Centre thus allowing a further layer of triage to ensure the appropriate usage of ambulance resources. Throughout these roles I held responsibility for the operational running of the clinical call centre balanced against the facilitation of safe, effective telephone triage assessments performed by my staff. In 2008 I assumed the position of Senior Clinical Nurse Manager with overall responsibility for training, supervision and onward achievement of audit, and nationally and locally agreed Key Performance Indicators. At this time I developed and facilitated a bespoke Telephone Triage course for nurses and GP's. As a Service Manager for NHS Solent I also directly line managed the nurses.  

    More recently, I have been employed as a Clinical Manager for the 111 South Central Ambulance Service where the unique requirement of achieving clinical excellence within an operational call centre environment that employs clinicians and non-clinicians remains a constant challenge and the facilitation of safe effective telephone triage within such an environment remains my passion and area of expertise. I am currently working on the publication of a clinician triage book to be entitled: ‘The Clinician’s Guide to surviving Telephone Triage.'

    I still hold a bank contact with South Central Ambulance Service for a Clinician and Manager role however, I am currently employed as a Clinical Author for NHS Pathways. This role involves the authoring and reviewing of the clinical content on NHS Pathways with a small team of clinicians. The work takes in to account research, local and national guidance for clinical protocols.

    I am utilising my extensive experience and skill in the unique areas of Unscheduled Care/Out of Hours and Telephone Triage to undertake medico legal work for Somek and Associates for both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers.  I  am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
