I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1990 and initially worked in general medicine and coronary care for 5 years before specialising in Accident and Emergency Nursing in 1993. I became a nurse practitioner in 2001 and specialised in the autonomous management of minor injuries and illnesses and have experience in the initial management of more serious illness and trauma. I have worked in two Emergency Departments – the John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford where I specialised in A&E nursing and the Bristol Royal Infirmary, where I took on senior positions and qualified as a nurse practitioners. I work in a variety of urgent care settings including urgent care centres, minor injury, walk in centre and GP out of hours environments. I currently work 18 hours a week clinically in practice. I have held Clinical and Operational lead positions at the Urgent Care Centre in South Bristol between 2012 and 2016. I have been an active non-medical independent and supplementary prescriber since 2007. I have always worked closely with my medical colleagues to ensure high standards of patient care at all times and know when to seek advice, discharge safely or refer either urgently or to an outpatient specialist.

I have worked in a variety of education and practice development roles both of which advocate high standards of nursing practice,  I have developed competency packages and am aware of the latest research and guidance. I have taught a wide range of Allied Health Professionals and nurses at university level the fundamental principles of history taking, patient examination, documentation and diagnostic reasoning. I have developed clinical pathways, developed standards and policy, overseen clinical governance issues including CQC compliance, complaints and incidents at a clinical and strategic leadership level.  I have experience writing reports and talking publicly at conferences, on local radio and patient case and governance meetings.

I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witness.
