Dip HE Nursing, BSc (Hons) Acute Healthcare, MSc Advanced Practice, Independent Nurse Prescriber
ANP primary care, aesthetics
I graduated in 2002 from the University of Leeds with a Diploma of Higher Education (DipHE) in adult nursing and started my career within general surgery. I soon developed an interest in managing acutely unwell patients and transitioned into the critical care setting where I spent six years as a critical care nurse and completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Honours degree in Acute Healthcare. With a commitment to developing my professional career and a passion for clinical expertise and critical thinking, I undertook a Master of Science in Advanced Practice and began my role as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) within the hospital at night and out of hours services at a large NHS teaching hospital. In 2017 I transitioned from secondary care into primary care, where I was given the opportunity to apply my clinical experience in a new and dynamic setting.
My role as an advanced nurse practitioner both in primary and secondary care requires me to work both autonomously and as part of the multidisciplinary team often in high pressure situations. Within primary care I work closely with patients and their families developing relationships and providing comprehensive, ongoing care that emphasises prevention of ill health and health promotion. I thrive in managing children from two years of age and adults with a wide variety of clinical presentations, from acute illness to chronic disease management, utilising my advanced assessment skills to provide holistic, evidence based, safe and effective patient care. As part of my role in primary care I regularly undertake home visits and care home visits which often involves palliative care and end of life decision making.
Within the hospital at night and out of hours team my role focused on the rapid assessment and management of acutely unwell adults utilising critical decision making and skills in basic and advanced life support. In addition to this as part of the hospital at night service the ANP position often took on the responsibility as acting Duty Matron which involved overseeing the operational management of the hospital at night team ensuring the delivery of safe, high quality patient care.
In addition to my role within the NHS I am self employed and successfully manage my own small business, providing non-surgical cosmetic treatments and skin care. Treatments include tailored home skin care regimens and professional skin care rejuvenation treatments including microneedling, chemical peels, skin boosters, polynucleotides, dermal fillers and botox injections. All treatments are tailored to individual client needs, detailed assessments, consultations and personalised treatment plans along appropriate face to face follow up ensures safe practice. I undertake regular training and education within this field to ensure I stay up to date with advances in practice and safety protocols.
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
