BSc Occupational Therapy
Paediatrics including; Neurology, Learning Difficulties & Autism, Sensory Impairment
I qualified as an Occupational Therapist from York St John’s University in 2006. After working in rotational positions gaining experience within a hospital setting I began my career as a paediatric OT. I have gained experience in NHS, hospital, and educational settings with children and young people with physical and neurological disabilities, complex medical needs, sensory impairment and learning difficulties.
I have developed and lead the occupational therapy service within a special school in Bristol where I have developed extensive skills in assessment of postural needs, motor skills, ADLs and sensory processing. In addition, I have expertise in supporting young people develop their independence through provision of wide ranging equipment including specialised seating, powerchairs, hygiene equipment, and upper limb splints.
I have a special interest in developing independent access to communication aids as well as switches for environmental controls. I work with students to help discover their most efficient and effective way of using their bodies - even when they have minimal or uncontrolled movements. We find how a child can ‘make things work,’ and through this I support students through specialist mounting and provision of switches to help them on their journey to use their voice and control the world around them.
I also hold a caseload of students with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and sensory impairments as a result of varying conditions. I assess sensory processing needs and implement treatment programmes as well as instructing and supporting carers in carrying out treatments and making environmental changes to enable the child to meet their needs.
Central to all my work is listening to the voice of the family and team around the child and finding out a family's aspirations, goals, and hopes for their child.
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
