I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1999 and am currently a part-time Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy at the University of Brighton and also work as an independent practitioner. I have taught as a visiting lecturer at Brighton University since 2005 and am currently a year leader and an accredited manual handling trainer. I also sit as a member on a product and design review committee with a local disability living centre.

Between 2002 and 2012 I was employed in social care services working with adults and children with multiple and complex needs, including those who had experienced traumatic injury. In these positions I advised on manual handling issues, and recommended specialist equipment and environmental adaptations, including hoisting and seating solutions. I have also advised regarding appropriate rehousing, commissioned and reviewed care packages and supervised others.

I have substantial experience of assessing adults, children and young people with conditions such as cerebral palsy and autistic spectrum disorder in the family home and school and recommending equipment and adaptations to reduce risk and promote independence. I have also advised the voluntary sector how to support children and young people with complex needs to participate in leisure and recreational activities and provided training. Prior to 2002 I worked for the NHS in mental health services for two and half years.

I consider I have particular skills and experience in relation to severely disabled adults and children, with a thorough knowledge of assessing care needs, specialist equipment, housing and adaptations.

I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
