    • Infection Prevention and Control

I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1984, and obtained a Master in Public Health in 1997. I currently work as a Nurse Consultant where I am responsible for the infection prevention and control programme for an integrated healthcare provider NHS Trust covering acute and primary care. I manage a team of two specialist nurses, a surveillance nurse, a healthcare assistant and an information officer. A significant part of my clinical duties includes assessment and application of policies and guidelines to ensure optimal clinical practice.

The Trust has achieved a CNST level two accreditation, a positive assessment from the Care Quality Commission and has a good reputation both regionally and nationally for historically low levels of healthcare-associated infection.

I have represented Infection Prevention Control Practitioners nationally and internationally as President of the Infection Prevention Society (formerly the Infection Control Nurses Association). I am a member of the Department of Health (England) Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare-associated infections and have worked as a member of improvement teams from the Department of Health for reducing MRSA and C. difficile infections. I currently chair the Education Committee of the Healthcare Infection Society.

I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
