After qualifying as an occupational therapist in 1989, I worked for the NHS in continuous service for over 35 years. In 2007, I combined working for the NHS with providing occupational therapy services in the independent sector. In 2024, I ceased my NHS work and I am now solely an independent practitioner.
My skills include but are not limited to holistic assessment and treatment of adults with physical or cognitive functional loss, environmental assessment, equipment recommendations, identification of care needs, vocational rehabilitation, and community working. I practise these skills at a specialist level with adults in the areas of stroke, older adults, and orthopaedics. These skills have been developed through various hospital and community based roles. My knowledge and experience enables me to understand the functional impact these conditions have on an individual's activities of daily living and their employment.
My independent experience began in 2007 working for an insurance company. I continue this relationship to date, completing in-depth holistic assessments of physical conditions or cognitive changes in older adults and the effect of any co-morbidities on their function. I am required to produce reports detailing findings, clinical reasoning, and recommendations. Recommendations can include care needs, adaptive equipment, environmental adaptations, and potential treatment requirements. I have steadily expanded my independent work by providing rehabilitation on an associate basis for rehabilitation companies. In this role I assess and treat clients with orthopaedic problems, frequently acquired in road traffic accidents; I am instructed by case managers on these cases. I also work clinically in a residential slow-stream rehabilitation brain injury unit. Completing the move wholly into the independent sector, I have now established my own practice offering adult occupational therapy services to private individuals with functional changes and employers with vocational issues.
I am committed to ensuring my knowledge is current and I am able to provide high quality, evidence based services for my clients by completing regular training and continual professional development.
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
