Introduction

I qualified as a chartered physiotherapist in 1998 and worked as a junior physiotherapist at Derbyshire Royal infirmary completing rotations in all major clinical areas. From 2000 to 2004 I specialised in neurology spending time on a rehabilitation unit, specialist brain Injury unit, neurological wards and working in the community supporting adults with long term conditions. I have supported patients from the early days following illness or injury through to managing their condition at home or in long-term care provision.

I then had a career break whilst my children were small and worked within education settings running and managing a house within a boarding school both in the UK and overseas.

Since returning to the UK in 2017, I have worked in private practice with a specialism in neurology. I have now set up my own business and work with adults following neurological illness or injury including spinal cord injury, CVA, brain injury and multiple orthopaedic trauma cases. I have undertaken additional training in functional electrical stimulation, hydrotherapy, dynamic splinting (lycra garments and dynamic orthotics) and Saebo products.

I work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team to carry out joint assessments and treatments looking at posture, seating, transfers, care needs, communication, and functional activity.

I am confident in the assessment and treatment of clients following stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury and other neurological illness. I am part of local networks of private therapists who undertake CPD and reflective practice.

In addition, in 2019 I began work as a case manager supporting clients following traumatic injury. I work under both joint and sole instruction and am confident in producing initial needs assessments, update reports and costings for therapy and equipment provision.

I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
