Introduction

I am an Occupational Therapist specialising in the field of rehabilitation of people with physical disabilities; my special interests are in orthopaedics (including orthopaedic trauma and elective surgery (lower and upper limbs), traumatic amputation (upper and lower limbs), hand injuries and elective hand surgery, gerontology, care/case management, multiple pathology, rheumatology and general medical and surgical conditions including amputees and abdominal surgery.

I worked for the NHS from 1995 to 2010 in various guises, including specialist occupational therapist, rehabilitation case manager and culminating in therapy manager at a rehabilitation facility in Cheshire. From 2005 and currently, I undertake comprehensive occupational therapy assessment and intervention with adults and older people outside of the NHS, alongside completing expert witness work. I also work part-time as a hand therapist in the local NHS Trust.

I joined Somek & Associates as an expert witness in 2005, since then I have written many medico-legal reports being instructed by Claimant, Defendant and as a single joint expert. I have undergone training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses. Until February 2021, I was employed by Somek & Associates as an associate trainer, which involved training and developing new experts.
