I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1985. I started working as a staff nurse in Intensive Care in 1986 and after completing my ENB 100 in 1988 I was promoted to junior sister. I became a senior sister in 1990 before leaving Mid Kent Healthcare NHS Trust in 1997. After a role as an Infection Control Nurse I then resumed working in ITU in 2000 at Maidstone and Tunbridge wells NHS Trust. I maintained my role in Critical Care between 2002 and 2009 as an Audit and Information Sister where I maintained a clinical role as a senior ITU nurse and acted up for the Matron.

I currently work on a project as the Frequent Service User Manager for West Kent working with groups of highly complex individuals who are frequent users of urgent care services. The aim is to reduce their reliance on services and reduce the costs associated with this. I have to apply advanced clinical reasoning and knowledge but also work holistically focussing on the individual needs of service users in order to enhance quality of life and ensure that they are engaged with appropriate services. I am responsible for the intensive case management of these individuals.

I also continue to work as an Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist in Chronic Pain for Kent Community Health NHS Trust. I work with patients to support self management in chronic pain. This includes holding my own clinics and providing a detailed initial assessment and planning of a care pathway. In this role I advise General Practitioners on medication management, as a qualified Independent Prescriber registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. I also teach on Pain Management Courses which are based upon a Cognitive Behavioural therapy approach. My role within a diverse multi disciplinary team involves initiating care pathways and supporting patients with evidence based self management strategies. This includes service delivery in secure environments.

I undertake medico-legal work for Somek and Associates where I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
