Certificate in emergency medical care, MSc Advanced Clinical Practice

Specialisms

Paramedic ACP in Urgent Treatment Centre. Also front-line Ambulance Paramedic until 2023.

Introduction

I joined the NHS in 2008, beginning my career with East of England Ambulance Service. I qualified as a paramedic in 2012 and then as a specialist paramedic in urgent care in 2017. In 2018 I left my full time position in the ambulance service but maintained a bank contract until 2023 which allowed me to continue undertaking front line paramedic work. I have extensive experience in dealing with time critical and urgent illness and trauma presentations of adult and paediatric patients.

Upon leaving the ambulance service I began working as an emergency practitioner in an urgent treatment centre. This enabled me to consolidate my knowledge and hone my skills in minor injury presentations. Although competent in all aspect of minor injuries, I have a particular interest in manipulation and management of fracture dislocations and also wound closure. Whilst working full time I completed a MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice which included the independent non medical prescriber qualification.

In 2023 I was successful in my application for the role of Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) in another London UTC, where I am still employed. As an ACP I am an expert in my field of undiagnosed and undifferentiated illness and injury presentations.

In amongst all of my roles to date I am also currently a mentor and trainer. This challenges me in a positive way, ensuring that I am up to date with evidence-based practice and knowledge. I find the education aspect of my role very rewarding and will soon be undertaking a PgCert in Practice Education.

I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
