PhD, Higher National Diploma - Prosthetics & Orthotics, BSc hons
I qualified as a Prosthetist in 1988 and have experience in prosthetics rehabilitation, education and research.
Currently, I work as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Salford. I am responsible for the clinical education and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students as part of the University of Salford’s Prosthetics and Orthotics HCPC accredited programme.
Since 2013, I have been taking an extremely active role in postgraduate supervision. Supporting and improving the reporting and writing styles of my 5 current postgraduate students is essential. I have also examined Doctorate theses - a skill that requires diligence, competence and an eye for detail at the highest academic level.
In my previous clinical roles, I was responsible for the clinical assessment, prescription and fitting of suitable bespoke upper and lower limb prostheses to individuals with upper or lower limb absence. I was able to see a number of complex cases, and had a keen eye to use and develop newer techniques or systems in practice. This ensured that I was able to develop my practice using a wider range of components and methods, enabling me to build an extensive clinical knowledge base with associated levels of practical experience. I took great care in ensuring that all of my service users were satisfied with my work. I was also the nominated placement educator at my place of work.
I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
