BSc (Hons) Speech & Language Pathology & Therapeutics
Autism, Learning Disabilities, Cerebral Palsy, Brain Injury, Dysphagia, AAC
I qualified as a speech and language therapist in 1997 and have subsequently worked in the NHS, independent practice and in Australia. I work with children and adults who experience difficulties with communication (autism, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities and general speech &/or language delays/disorders) or eating, drinking (dysphagia).
I have worked extensively with people who have autism (from 18 months to adult) and in several areas of the country, set up communication departments in state and private schools specifically to meet the needs of pupils with autism. I am skilled in completing extensive assessments of individual needs, providing measurable outcomes and making recommendations for future management and interventions.
I have gained a clear understanding of educational funding, review and monitoring systems as outlined in statutory legislation as part of the EHCP process.
My current caseload includes pre-school children with dyspraxia, school aged children who are at various points on the spectrum of autistic disorders/conditions or have cerebral palsy, and occasionally I get children with voice or dysfluency issues. I provide bespoke and accredited training to parents and professionals and pride myself in my natural ability to differentiate my communication style to effectively nurture positive, professional relationships with clients and their families. This results in a trusting environment to share information about needs and wishes during assessment and intervention. I have written articles published in SecEd and British Journal of School Nursing and have had three speech sound Picture Books published.
I am a CUBS accredited expert witness and since 2009 have provided independent SEND Tribunal reports and medico-legal reports for solicitors, individuals, and agencies. I conduct language, speech and social skills assessments through clinical interview, behavioural observations, standardised testing, and review of records.
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
