I qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1986, gaining further qualifications up to MSc level through continued study in subsequent years.
I have specialised in neurological physiotherapy since 1988 and I have extensive experience mainly in brain Injury and stroke rehabilitation both within the NHS and the private sector.
Since 2004 I have been a Senior Lecturer at the University of Cumbria specialising in the teaching of neurological physiotherapy, pathophysiology and moving and handling. I design and deliver undergraduate and post graduate modules mainly focusing on my specialist area of neurological physiotherapy. I am required to keep up to date with current research, standards and legislation related to my area of expertise.
In addition to my academic duties, I am also a part time PhD research student undertaking my own research project into an area of stroke rehabilitation.
I have been a Physiotherapy expert witness since 2011 undertaking medico-legal reports for Somek & Associates. I specialise in adult brain injury and stroke reports but and have also accepted instructions for several spinal injury cases. I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
