Introduction

I am a highly accomplished and committed Occupational Therapist. I graduated from St Loyes School of Occupational Therapy, Exeter in 1974 and until September 2011 worked full time in the NHS and Social Services at both Clinical and Managerial level. Clinically I have a specific interest and expertise in Neurology and Palliative Care and experience treating adults with amputations, traumatic injuries and orthopaedic conditions. Therapeutic responsibilities included undertaking complex assessments, devising and implementing evidence-based short-term treatment programmes and home adaptations for adults with a broad range of acute, chronic, degenerative, and complex bio-psychosocial presentations living within multi-cultural environments.

I have developed and promoted co-operative relationships with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to ensure patients and their carers received comprehensive and bespoke care packages. Project work has included designing and introducing an innovative and effective departmental workload management system.

Managerially I have experience in preparing business cases for appointing Specialist Community Occupational Therapy posts, successfully negotiating charitable funding, giving clinical supervision and managerial leadership to an Occupational Therapy Team and developing the Occupational Therapy Service linking with the core values and strategic plan of the Organisation.

Using highly developed analytical skills I have also produced detailed medical reports for Consultant Neurologists and Neurosurgeons in London and the UK.

I have a proven ability in working closely with Surveyors and Architects and advising clients with a broad spectrum of disabilities on property modifications. In 2009 I was awarded a Diploma in Professional Interior Design and in September 2011 I left the NHS and formed my own Company – DESIGNATE Housing Adaptations Interior Design and Colour Consultancy. Using my combined knowledge as an Occupational Therapist and Interior Designer I aim to produce colourful, exciting and  practical designs that contain the ‘wow’ factor’ and use minimal adaptive equipment to enable adults with disabilities to achieve dignified living and maximal independence in an environment of their choice.

I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
