BSc Occupational Therapy
I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1999 and during my career I have gained significant experience in working with adults with severe traumatic brain injuries and their families.
I have worked with clients through all stages of neurorehabilitation from acute hospital care to acute inpatient neurorehabilitation to outpatient neurorehabilitation to long term community rehabilitation and support.
My current role as a Case Manager focusses on maximising their potential and ensuring they have access to the support they need to optimise their rehabilitation potential. I approach each situation from a client centred holistic perspective and have worked with many clients and their families going through personal injury litigation and beyond. Some of my clients have sustained orthopaedic injuries as well as brain injuries.
I regularly prepare comprehensive needs assessments, using functional and cognitive assessment skills and develop rehabilitation plans for clients, including estimates of costs for clients and fund holders. I assess for and source assistive equipment and support clients to maximize their vocational opportunity. I liaise with multi-disciplinary team members co-ordinating the rehabilitation pathway and develop relationships with care agencies to ensure a high standard of care for clients.
I have experience recruiting support staff and have arranged training to help them understand their roles in engaging effectively with clients. I have also been involved in disciplinary procedures. In my current role I am a professional mentor for four other case managers. I supervise their work, have regular mentorship sessions with them and conduct annual appraisals.
Through my work as a case manager, I have developed a very good knowledge of the legal system. I have read many expert witness reports, attended legal case conferences as a case manager, prepared witness statements and have attended court as a witness of fact for one of my clients.
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
