Introduction

I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2010 and have specialised in adult and children’s physical disability demonstrating specialist clinical knowledge and skills. This includes, but is not limited to: neurological conditions (cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and cerebrovascular accident), amputees, brachial plexus injuries and orthopaedic injuries. I currently work in social care and effectively manage a complex case load with a range of conditions and functional abilities including moving and handling assessments in considering single handed care, major adaptations and provision of equipment.  Correct and safe use of any equipment is demonstrated to clients, families and formal carers and relevant risk assessments and documentation are completed.  I am responsible for managing the children’s service in my current role including new processes and managing waiting times.

I use my clinical reasoning and problem solving skills to complete in-depth occupational therapy assessments and write comprehensive reports. This involves gathering information, observing function and liaising with professionals and services to support decision making, plan, implement and review intervention.  I am an autonomous practitioner with the confidence, competency and initiative to work alone and I am able to work under pressure whilst still delivering a quality service.

I have obtained leadership certificates and I enjoy supervising and mentoring staff and students. I undertake formal and informal supervisions and annual appraisals.  I support colleagues with any queries, case discussions and panel outcomes.

My interpersonal, listening, verbal and written communication skills are excellent and I am able to liaise, adapt and communicate effectively with clients, carers and colleagues across all agencies facilitating therapeutic relationships.  I am able to communicate complex, sensitive and contentious information, I feel that I am resilient and have the ability to deal with the emotional demands of occupational therapy practice when dealing with people in crisis/safeguarding situations.

I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
