Paediatric A&E, Adult & Child Minor Injuries/Walk in Centres, Urgent Care
Having qualified first as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) in 1993, I have dedicated my career to the field of Urgent and Emergency Care. My passion for supporting patients across the lifespan in urgent and emergency care led me to achieve dual nursing registration in 1998 as a Registered Nurse (Child) (RN-Child) in addition to my RGN. Following which I have enjoyed a focused clinical career specialising in Paediatric Urgent and Emergency Care, however maintaining my practice with patients across the age range. Over my career I have had the pleasure of working in a wide range of clinical setttings, ranging from district general hospital A&E departments to paediatric specialist centres, providing critical care for the acutely ill and injured patients.
In 2003, I completed my Master’s in Nursing (Paediatric Nurse Practitioner pathway). This qualification deepened my expertise and enabled me to take on numerous specialist roles within paediatric acute care. As I transitioned into academia in 2006, my career evolved into a blend of clinical practice and higher education, serving as an Associate Professor within a higher education environment, a role I maintain honorarily, as an Emeritus Associate Professor. This shift allowed me to develop my skills in the analysis and synthesis of research, ensuring that my clinical practice was always evidence-based and supported by best-practice research. I continually strive to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world clinical application, fostering an environment of learning and improvement in both educational and clinical settings. Currently, I work as both an Emergency Nurse Practitioner and a Paediatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner across a variety of Urgent Treatment Centre/Minor Injury Units. These roles enable me to apply my clinical expertise, delivering high-quality care to patients of all ages while continuing to contribute to the development of emergency and urgent care services in an education role.
Throughout my career, whether in clinical practice or within health education, I have remained deeply committed to the clinical management of the acutely injured or unwell patient. My comprehensive understanding of urgent care, particularly in paediatrics, has allowed me to provide not only effective and evidence-based care but also compassionate, empathetic support to patients and their families in times of crisis.
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
