I qualified as a Mental Health Nurse in August 1999 and have experience working with patients with severe and enduring mental health problems. For most of my professional career I have specialised in the field of Forensic mental health nursing medium, secure, low secure mental health and deafness, inpatient drug and alcohol detoxification and high dependency rehabilitation services. I have experience in various clinical nurse and leadership positions and have a qualification in teaching and assessing in the clinical environment.
In my current role, I have responsibility for the provision of nursing care, ensuring that all patients have relevant and up to date care plans. I ensure that robust risk assessment and management plans are completed for patients as required.
I have experience in developing and evaluating models of clinical supervision and reflection to support professional practice and improvements in patient care. I supervise the care given by junior staff i.e. clinical nurses and support workers, ensuring that the care delivered meets the required standards and is in accordance with the individual treatment/care plans.
In addition, I have experience in pre-admission assessments and writing assessment reports, writing care and treatment plans and have experience in a wide range of clinical risk assessment tools including START, STAR, HCR 20.
Within my present position. I am involved with dealing with medication administration errors and implement evidenced based tools to assess, investigate and implement action plans. I implement capacity and performance management plans to support staff and deal with performance related issues. I have experience in the provision of clinical supervision to clinical staff ensuring that this is clearly evidenced and documented. I investigate accidents, untoward incidents and patient complaints, providing a report and ensure that the relevant documentation is completed and circulated as necessary.
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
