Professional Experience
I qualified as a midwife in 2008 and have since gained extensive experience across all areas of maternity care, including community and acute settings. In the community, I have delivered routine antenatal and postnatal care, conducted initial bookings, provided parent education, and escalated concerns appropriately.
As a rotational midwife, I have worked in maternity including maternity triage, antenatal ward, labour ward, and postnatal care. In triage, I carry out clinical assessments of maternal and fetal well-being, both remotely and in person, including physical examinations, venepuncture, cannulation, and timely escalation to senior staff or the obstetric team. My labour ward experience includes managing both low- and high-risk cases, interpreting cardiotocographs (CTGs), administering intravenous therapies, supporting epidural analgesia, and responding to obstetric emergencies such as postpartum haemorrhage, shoulder dystocia, sepsis, pre-eclampsia, cord prolapse, and emergency operative deliveries. I also manage care for women undergoing induction of labour and those presenting in preterm labour. Postnatally, I provide care following vaginal and operative births, support infant feeding, manage neonatal jaundice, and administer neonatal antibiotics where indicated.
Professional Development
I have led and contributed to national projects aimed at improving maternity safety and service quality such as the NHSRO Maternal and Neonatal Learning and Action Network (LAN). This has included reviewing and updating clinical guidelines to ensure alignment with current evidence and national standards. I have also managed and supported research projects across obstetrics, gynaecology, neonatology, and paediatrics. These roles have required critical appraisal of clinical evidence, stakeholder engagement, and implementation of findings into practice. My work in this area reflects a commitment to improving outcomes through evidence-based care and system-level learning. I have also recently launched my own independent service as a midwife providing antenatal education as well as debrief consultations for families.
Medico Legal Experience
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
