Professional Experience
I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2003 and have worked continuously in acute hospital settings, including emergency and acute medicine, cardiology, and critical care, across three NHS hospitals. This has provided a broad foundation in the care and management of acutely unwell adults.
Since 2013, I have worked as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, initially in Cardiology and currently in Emergency Medicine. My current role involves autonomous assessment and management of patients with undifferentiated conditions within Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and Accident & Emergency. This includes clinical examination, ordering and interpreting investigations, diagnosis, treatment planning, and prescribing.
My clinical skill set includes venepuncture, cannulation, catheterisation, arterial blood gas sampling, ECG interpretation, and independent prescribing. I am IRMER-trained and authorised to request radiological investigations, and I am also a qualified Advanced Life Support Instructor.
Professional Development
I hold a BSc (Hons) in Adult Critical Care, a Specialist Practitioner Adult Qualification, and an MSc in Cardiology. I have a particular interest in clinical research and have secured a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Doctoral Fellowship. My doctoral research focuses on clinical outcomes and patient experience within SDEC services, which I undertake alongside ongoing clinical practice. I maintain my clinical professional development by attending relevant training.
Beyond my clinical roles, I served for eight years as a Fitness to Practise panellist for the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), concluding in 2017. In this role, I sat on the Conduct and Competence Committee, contributing to the evaluation of complex evidence and decision-making within the regulatory framework. I have also worked as a Specialist Advisor to the Care Quality Commission, participating in ad hoc inspections of acute hospital services.
Medico Legal Experience
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses. I have given oral evidence as an expert witness.
