Stephen McMylor, Registered Nurse
Professional Experience
I have been a Registered Nurse since 1990, with the majority of my career spent in senior management and operational roles within the private care sector. I specialise in care home turnaround and complex resolution management, working closely with regulatory bodies and safeguarding authorities to achieve safe and compliant outcomes in settings with previously identified serious concerns.
Following initial NHS experience post-registration, I became a Partner and Registered Manager of a care home providing nursing care to elderly residents. In 1994, I expanded the business by establishing a domiciliary care service, which grew to become a provider across multiple local authorities. As Director of Operations, I oversaw service delivery, regulatory compliance, and strategic development.
I have extensive experience managing compliance inspections under various regulatory frameworks, including NHS, NCSC, CSCI, and CQC. This has included responding to statutory warning notices, safeguarding referrals, and implementing corrective action plans. I currently provide general nursing services within the care home sector.
My areas of expertise include dementia care, the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, medication management, care records, incident reporting, tissue viability, pressure care, falls, pain management, infection control, first aid, CPR, health and safety, malnutrition, end-of-life care, safeguarding, mobility, continence, cognition, behaviour, consent and capacity, funding, and regulatory compliance.
Professional Development
Throughout my career, I have maintained a strong focus on regulatory standards, clinical governance, and service improvement. I have led operational and strategic initiatives to improve care quality and compliance, and have supported staff development and training in line with evolving sector requirements. My experience spans both residential and domiciliary care, with a particular emphasis on safeguarding and risk management. I maintain my professional development by attending relevant training.
Medico Legal Experience
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
I commenced a role as an Associate trainer for Somek & Associates in September 2025, which involves training new experts and supporting their ongoing development.
