Professional Experience

I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1997 from Leeds Metropolitan University. I have a wealth of experience working with children and young people (0-25 years) with autistic spectrum conditions, developmental language disorders, dyspraxia, language and literacy difficulties, cerebral palsy, profound and multiple learning difficulties, global developmental delay, and Down’s syndrome. I have over 25 years’ experience working as a clinician and school leader supporting children and young people across their educational career.

I currently work as a Clinical lecturer and Consultant Speech and Language Therapist, managing a clinical caseload and lead on a number of collaborative projects. I provide specialist speech, language and communication assessments, evaluations, and reports, which are evidence-based, and family focused. My approach varies to accommodate the individual needs of each child and the adults supporting them. This has included tasks such as preparing for, and attending, SEN tribunals and co-ordinating support for children experiencing significant challenges with emotional regulation. These children often present as disengaged and distressed and benefit from a high level of multi-disciplinary collaboration, detailed planning and creative problem solving.

I administer assessments which yield both qualitative and quantitative data and create detailed reports. These reports describe differential diagnosis, learning strengths, challenges and the impact these might have on the child's school experience. I apply insights into child development, workforce skills and the school system to make recommendations that will increase both a child's immediate experiences of school and their long-term life outcomes. I firmly believe that having a cohesive education programme, delivered by a confident multi-disciplinary team, whilst being steered by learners and their families is crucial if all young people are to achieve an equal, valued and active role within their communities.

Professional Development

I have lectured on the Speech and Language Therapy programme at the University of Greenwich and have a role in Autistica’s ‘Discovery Network’ which aims to innovate services for autistic people. I also maintain my professional development and HCPC standards by attending relevant training.

Medico Legal Experience

I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses. I am trained in both quantum and liability cases.
