Natalie O’Reilly, Registered Midwife
Professional Experience
I qualified as a midwife in 2007 and have worked across three NHS trusts, gaining broad clinical experience in all areas of maternity care. My practice includes antenatal, postnatal, triage, labour ward, midwifery-led units, and home birth settings. I am proficient in administering intravenous medications, interpreting CTG recordings, managing in-utero transfers, and providing postnatal care, including support for breastfeeding and infant feeding issues. I am proficient in caring for women at home, both within guidance and outside of guidance, and the management of emergencies at home and emergency transfers. I have experience managing women following surgical and assisted births.
On the labour ward, I have developed skills in suturing, cannulation, catheterisation, escalation of care, and neonatal resuscitation. These competencies are fully transferable to community and home birth environments. I regularly plan and manage care in the community, taking into account clinical risk, psychological needs, and individual preferences. I have also worked within a continuity of care team, supporting both high- and low-risk women across the maternity pathway. I have a particular interest in supporting women who choose care outside of standard clinical guidance, including high-risk intrapartum care at home and cases involving declined intervention during induction of labour. My approach is grounded in evidence-based practice and informed consent.
From 2012 to 2015, I practiced privately in the Middle East, gaining further experience in international midwifery care.
Professional Development
I have completed postgraduate master’s-level modules in the Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) and currently work in a midwife-led NIPE clinic. I maintain my professional development by attending relevant training.
Medico Legal Experience
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
