Professional Experience
Currently working as a bank midwife, I rotate across triage, daycare, antenatal, labour, birth centre, and postnatal wards, maintaining a strong clinical skill set in intrapartum care across both high- and low-risk settings.
Since qualifying as a midwife from the University of Salford in 2009, I've held a variety of clinical and leadership roles across community and hospital settings in Salford and Manchester. My experience spans antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, including home births and water births.
As a Band 7 Governance Midwife, I led clinical incident reviews, audits, and guideline development, and served as the departmental lead for ATAIN (Avoiding Term Admissions into Neonatal Units), driving improvements in neonatal outcomes. In my role as a Band 7 Maternity Bleepholder, I provided operational oversight of the maternity unit, managing capacity, staffing, emergency response, infection control, and patient experience. Acting as the senior midwife on site, I supported clinical and operational needs across all areas.
Previous roles include working as a core midwife in triage and on the Birth Centre, and spending four years as a community midwife, acting as the primary care provider from booking to 28 days postnatal. My clinical competencies include high dependency care, CTG interpretation, fetal heart monitoring, theatre, epidural care, newborn life support, newborn infant physical examination, advanced perineal repair, BSOTS (Birmingham Symptom Specific Obstetric Triage System), IV cannulation, phlebotomy, and drug administration. In 2023, I completed a Baby Lifeline course to further enhance my CTG interpretation skills.
I have also designed and delivered training on obstetric emergencies in the community, water birth, and labour care in midwifery-led settings.
Professional Development
I lead improvements in clinical practice and education through sharing learning from serious incidents and reporting systems. I have also contributed to the development of care pathways for women considering birth options following caesarean section and co-founded the Trust’s home birth steering group. I maintain my professional development by attending relevant training.
Medico Legal Experience
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
I am employed as an Associate trainer for Somek & Associates, which involves training new experts and supporting their ongoing development.
