Professional Experience

I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1985 and have held diverse roles across clinical, educational, and managerial settings. For the past 14 years, I have specialised in criminal justice nursing, working as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in both open and closed male prison establishments. My responsibilities span the full spectrum of adult primary care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prescribing for minor illnesses, injuries, chronic conditions, and end-of-life care. I am IRMER-trained and independently order and interpret diagnostic investigations such as X-rays, Ultrasound, CT, and MRI scans, as well as blood and pathology tests.

As the senior nurse on site, I lead emergency responses to serious or life-threatening incidents and oversee complex clinical decision-making. I manage substance misuse cases, including acute withdrawal, toxicity, maintenance, and detoxification, and lead on prescribing and clinical governance in this area. I also chair multiprofessional complex case clinics and provide mentorship to student nurses, prescribers, and advanced practitioners. My role includes regular review and development of clinical policies, procedures, and care pathways, alongside conducting audits to ensure quality and compliance.

Professional Development

Throughout my career, I have consistently pursued continuing professional development to maintain clinical excellence and stay abreast of evolving standards. I have completed postgraduate studies in advanced clinical examination and clinical reasoning at master’s level, alongside formal training in management and teaching. I hold RCGP Part 2 certification in the management of drug misuse and actively participate in national conferences and professional forums. I am a nurse associate member of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine and a member of the National Substance Misuse Non-Medical Prescribers Forum. These affiliations support my ongoing engagement with best practice and policy development in forensic and substance misuse care.

Medico Legal Experience

I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
