Lucy Hyde, Registered Midwife

Professional Experience

I qualified as a Midwife in 2010 and have since worked across all areas of NHS midwifery, gaining a comprehensive understanding of clinical practice in both low and high-risk settings. My recent clinical work has focused on maternity triage, low risk birth centre and antenatal services. I am on call for homebirths and am also work as an operational co-ordinator as part of the clinical leadership team, providing operational oversight of the day to day running of the maternity services and ensuring compliance with local and national policies. Since 2022, I have held the role of Practice Development Midwife, with responsibility for overseeing the training and development of all members of the multiprofessional team.

I maintain clinical competence through regular bank shifts across the maternity service as well as working clinically in escalation and on calls.

Professional Development

I have a detailed understanding of mandatory training requirements and CPD opportunities for midwives, as well as the standards set by the Maternity Incentive Scheme (MIS), Care Quality Commission (CQC), NHS England, and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). I ensure student placement areas meet NMC standards and am experienced in identifying deficiencies in training and clinical provision, particularly in low-risk labour care and community-based services. My role includes strategic input into workforce development and quality improvement initiatives. I maintain my own professional development by attending relevant training.
