Professional Experience

I qualified as a mental health nurse in 1998 and have held senior clinical roles within the NHS across a range of mental health services, including forensic settings. My core expertise lies in risk assessment and the formulation of risk management plans, applicable in both community and in-patient environments. I currently work as an Accredited Psychological Therapist delivering Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to adults with emotionally unstable personality disorder, autism, ADHD, depression, and anxiety.

My role includes individual therapy, group sessions, and telephone coaching to support skill generalisation. I routinely assess and manage patients at high risk of suicide and self-harm, often with complex comorbidities, and escalate to crisis services when necessary. I have a working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983, the Mental Capacity Act 2005, and relevant forensic legislation. I am experienced in safeguarding procedures and inter-agency coordination to ensure timely interventions.

My role requires high-level communication and analytical skills to evaluate clinical information and formulate clear, evidence-based recommendations.

Professional Development

I completed foundational DBT training in March 2020, followed by intensive training in August 2021. In July 2023, I was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in DBT from Bangor University and subsequently gained accreditation from the Society for Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. I have a strong understanding of NHS policies and procedures, including the Care Programme Approach (CPA) and Care, Education and Treatment Reviews (CETRs), in line with NHS England’s mental health service transformation agenda. I maintain my professional CPD by attending relevant training.

Medico Legal Experience

My experience includes giving oral evidence in court while working in a drug and alcohol service, and providing expert testimony at a Coroner’s inquest and a professional regulation hearing.
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
