Professional Experience
Since qualifying as an Occupational Therapist in 2007, I have worked within the NHS specialising in acute adult physical disability including general medicine, orthopaedics, surgery, and care of the elderly. I developed a particular interest in orthopaedics (trauma and elective) and surgery, and since 2009 have worked in this field across acute general, major trauma and tertiary hospitals as a senior Occupational Therapist. As such, I have extensive experience in the acute assessment and treatment of clients including, but not limited to, those who have undergone general and vascular surgery, lower limb amputations, fractures and major joint arthroplasties.
My current role as the Head of Occupational Therapy at an NHS Hospital Trust, provides me with experience within all adult medical and surgical specialities at our Trust. My role involves leading the occupational therapists to strive to provide evidenced based and meaningful clinical care to our patients across these specialities and supporting them in their clinical supervision.
I am skilled at communicating with different individuals and have been involved with case conferences, multi professional system meetings, and strategic consultations across the county.
I have experience of presenting at Coroner’s Court, investigating disciplinary incidents and preparing formal reports for hearings.
Professional Development
I maintain my professional development and HCPC standards by attending relevant training.
I am a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists, and previously held the role of chair for the Trauma and Musculoskeletal Health specialist interest group, enabling clinicians to share knowledge and best practice across the UK in specialities such as orthopaedics, critical care and amputee rehabilitation.
Medico Legal Experience
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
