Professional Experience
I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2016 and have specialised in providing holistic care to patients across acute hospital settings, mainly in neurology. I have also worked on endocrinology and medical-surgical wards. I have considerable nursing experience in patient admission, assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation, while delivering safe and compassionate nursing interventions. Over the last five years I have developed extensive experience in assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for patients with diverse neurological conditions including multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, Guillain-Barre syndrome, traumatic and acquired brain injury, spinal injury and cerebrovascular accidents. My current role as a Neurology Headache Practitioner has further strengthened my clinical autonomy, critical thinking, diagnostic skills and my ability to provide patient-centred care, including education and support for those managing long-term conditions. I continue to maintain my clinical competence through monthly bank shifts in neurology and other medical wards.
I joined Somerset NHS Foundation Trust in 2019 as a Staff Nurse and progressed to Deputy Ward Manager before taking up my current Band 7 post. In this role I have been responsible for delivering high standards of nursing care within a multidisciplinary team and have gained strong leadership and management experience, including rota planning, sickness management, appraisals, incident reporting and root cause analysis, conflict resolution, and mentoring of colleagues and students. My responsibilities include co-ordinating complex care for patients with headache conditions using high level of critical thinking based on evidence-based practice, advocating for patients to get equitable care by liaising with pharmaceutical companies and ICBs. Also, prescribing and administration of treatments such as BOTOX and timely review of response to treatment, writing SOPs and care pathways. I possess knowledge of providing neurological rehabilitation, and end-of-life care with dignity and respect. I have been commended for my ability to communicate effectively, document accurately, and involve families in the care process.
Professional Development
I have invested in my professional development completing training in intravenous drug administration, cannulation, wound care, physical and neurological observations, basic and intermediate life support, safeguarding, manual handling, management essentials, clinical audit and advanced modules such as Principles of Neuroscience (Masters level) and Non-Medical Prescribing. These have enabled me to expand my scope of practice, apply evidence-based care and contribute to service development, including writing pathways, standard operating procedures and service plans. I maintain my professional development and NMC standards by attending relevant training.
Medico Legal Experience
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
