Professional Experience
I have worked within the NHS as an Occupational Therapist since qualifying in 1996, across many specialities, including inpatient and community. I currently work and specialise in care of the elderly in an inpatient setting and treat patients with orthopaedic, respiratory, cardiology, gastroenterology, palliative care, amputee, general medicine and neurology diagnoses. I am able to confidently assess the functional impact of conditions on patients' occupations and identify treatment plans alongside the patient to improve their independence.
My main specialism is care of the elderly assessment and treatment. I have treated patients pre and post amputation throughout my career from acute stage through to prosthetic rehabilitation. In my current role I undertake complex treatment and rehabilitation for amputees; these are primarily elderly patients who cannot be discharged directly from the hospital where they have had surgery.
I have worked at a specialist level within general medicine, medical, care of the elderly, stroke and emergency medicine during my career so have a wealth of specialist experience. This is particularly advantageous working with the elderly care population who require expertise across specialities.
I routinely produce reports as part of my role as an occupational therapist, producing detailed environmental reports, comprehensive manual handling plans, court of protection reports and justification for minor and major adaptations.
Medico Legal Experience
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
