Professional Experience
I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1991 and currently work as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in General Practice. This role includes providing primary care to patients within the surgery and clinical oversight for 12 local care homes. I support care home staff with decision-making, chronic disease management, and compliance with clinical standards.
Previously, I was a Care Home Manager in the private sector, responsible for operational and clinical management. Before that, I worked as Lead Nurse for Dementia at the Golden Jubilee Hospital in Glasgow, where I supported staff training and service delivery aligned with the Scottish National Dementia Strategy for Acute Care.
Earlier roles include Clinical Services Manager for a large private care home providing dementia and frailty care, where I led clinical governance and supported staff in maintaining compliance with the Scottish Care Inspectorate Standards. I also worked for six years as a Care Home Nurse Specialist with the Glasgow Nursing Homes Medical Practice, delivering triage and clinical support across six nursing homes. This included staff training in palliative care, catheter care, wound care, and nutritional support. I began my leadership career managing a dementia unit in a private care setting.
Professional Development
My career has maintained a focus on dementia care, care home practice, and older adult health. At the Golden Jubilee Hospital, I worked in collaboration with the Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Nurse Consultant network, delivering training to multidisciplinary teams to improve dementia care standards. I have developed and delivered education sessions on a range of clinical topics including long-term condition management, end-of-life care, and clinical risk reduction in residential settings. I have worked across both NHS and private sectors and have experience aligning care delivery with national clinical standards and regulatory frameworks. I maintain my clinical professional development by attending relevant training.
Medico Legal Experience
I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses. I have given oral evidence as an expert witness.
