Professional Experience
I qualified as a nurse in 2003 and began working in neonatal care in 2004. I completed the Neonatal Qualified in Specialty course in 2005/2006 and have since worked across Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 neonatal units (SCU/LNU/NICU) in London and the Home Counties. In 2007, I spent a year working in a large tertiary neonatal unit in Canada before returning to the UK to continue my neonatal career. I have progressed through roles including Staff Nurse, Senior Staff Nurse, Sister, and Practice Development Nurse, before completing my Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ANNP) training in 2016. I am currently working as a Ward Manager on a Neonatal Unit.
As an ANNP, I have worked in a Level 2 LNU and a Level 3 NICU. My responsibilities include the care of preterm infants, term neonates, and babies with congenital anomalies across the neonatal unit, postnatal ward, and delivery suite. I am competent in advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management, and perform procedures including cannulation, venepuncture, central line insertion, intubation, lumbar puncture, cranial ultrasound scanning and interpretation, cerebral function monitoring (CFM), and interpretation of X-rays and brain MRIs. I am a non-medical prescriber and manage admissions, discharges, and ward rounds independently, with consultant oversight.
I also attend deliveries and provide neonatal resuscitation and support to junior staff. I am actively involved in teaching both nurses and junior doctors in theoretical and practical aspects of neonatal care.
Professional Development
I completed my Advanced Clinical Practice MSc with a focus on neonatal care and qualified as an Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in 2016. My ongoing professional development includes advanced procedural training, prescribing, and neonatal imaging interpretation. I have held educational and leadership roles, including Practice Development Nurse, and continue to contribute to staff training and clinical governance within the neonatal setting.
Medico Legal Experience
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
