Professional Experience
I am currently working as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner in general and breast surgery. In this role, I independently review patients in surgical clinics, assist in both laparoscopic and open procedures, conduct ward rounds, and provide education to nursing and junior medical staff. This marks a significant evolution in my clinical practice, combining advanced assessment skills with surgical expertise.
Since qualifying as a registered nurse in 2010, I have developed extensive clinical expertise across hepatology, gastroenterology, critical care, and surgical practice. My early career was spent in a regional liver unit, managing patients with complex liver conditions including transplant cases. I then progressed to Critical Care, gaining experience in life support and acute patient management.
I later worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in liver disease, focusing on Hepatitis C and Cirrhosis, delivering care across hospital, community, prison, and substance misuse settings. In 2019, I transitioned into a Macmillan-affiliated role as a nurse practitioner in UGI and hepatobiliary (HPB) cancers. This autonomous role involved managing patients from diagnosis to end-of-life care, and I led the development of a rapid access jaundice service.
I am an independent nurse prescriber and have completed physical assessment and history-taking modules. I am IRMER and MRI trained, enabling me to request radiological and endoscopic investigations. I have undertaken basic surgical skills training at the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.
Professional Development
I hold postgraduate qualifications in Clinical Research and have completed specialist training in palliative care through Macmillan and I have recently completed an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice. My clinical interests include nutrition in gastrointestinal surgery and cancer, pancreatitis, and enhanced recovery after surgery.
I continue to work bank shifts in acute NHS wards to maintain general nursing competencies and maintain my professional development by attending relevant training.
Medico Legal Experience
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
