Emma Clarke, Registered Midwife
Professional Experience
I qualified as a midwife in 2009 and have worked across all core areas of midwifery, including antenatal and postnatal wards, day assessment units, triage, delivery suites, midwifery-led units, and community-based home birth teams. I was working within a dedicated home birth team, providing continuity of care throughout pregnancy, labour, and the postnatal period. This included supporting women with high-risk pregnancies who chose to receive care outside of established clinical guidelines. My responsibilities included delivering evidence-based information to facilitate informed decision-making and producing formal documentation, such as care outside of guidance letters and birth plans, that reflected these discussions. I am now working back in the hospital setting, covering all areas, including delivery suite, midwifery-led unit, postnatal ward, triage and day assessment unit.
I routinely engage with contemporary research and clinical standards to support women making decisions that fall outside conventional protocols. This includes assessing risk, documenting rationale, and communicating clearly with multidisciplinary teams. I have developed strong skills in clinical reasoning, patient advocacy, and professional accountability.
Professional Development
My role requires current knowledge of national guidance, clinical risk management, and complex care planning. My continued practice in high-acuity environments ensures that I remain proficient in emergency care, intrapartum management, and postnatal assessment. I also attend relevant training to maintain my professional development.
Medico Legal Experience
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
