Professional Experience

I qualified as a midwife in 2010 from the University of Parma, Italy, and have consistently maintained clinical practice. I am currently Head of Midwifery at The North West Anglia Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where I lead maternity services across Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital. Prior to this, I held the same role at James Paget University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. I previously worked at Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust as Maternity Transformation Programme Manager, coordinating multidisciplinary teams to review, plan, and implement complex clinical initiatives. In 2023, I served as Interim Head of Midwifery and Gynaecology and Deputy Director of Midwifery, providing strategic and operational leadership across maternity and gynaecology services. I work regularly as a rotational midwife, labour ward coordinator, and care pathway coordinator, and I am part of the 24/7 clinical management on-call team.

My clinical competencies include perineal repair, IV cannulation, venepuncture, artificial rupture of membranes, vaginal examination, CTG interpretation, fetal scalp electrode application, and facilitation of both mechanical and pharmacological induction of labour. I provide intrapartum care for both low- and high-risk women, including those with complex medical co-morbidities. I am experienced in perioperative care, post-surgical recovery, wound assessment, and care of critically ill women following regional or general anaesthesia. I also scrub for elective and emergency obstetric procedures.

I have managed and coordinated multiple obstetric emergencies, including cardiac arrest, massive antepartum and postpartum haemorrhage, eclampsia, shoulder dystocia, sepsis, and neonatal resuscitation. I am certified in Newborn Life Support (NLS) and have extensive experience in initial newborn assessment and care of neonates requiring enhanced observation. I also provide emotional support to bereaved families and assist mothers with infant feeding.

Professional Development

I am a certified Safeguarding Children Supervisor and work closely with Trust-wide safeguarding teams to support staff managing high-risk and complex safeguarding cases. I have held governance roles, including regular deputising for the Head of Maternity Governance and Assurance, contributing to incident reviews, risk management, and assurance processes. I am a certified Royal College of Physicians Mortality Reviewer (adult) and have participated in Trust-level mortality reviews. Nationally, I have served as a MBRRACE-UK Officer for the Confidential Enquiry into Maternal Deaths across the UK and Ireland, supporting case investigations and contributing to national learning.

Medico Legal Experience

I worked full-time at NHS Resolution as Clinical Lead for the CNST Maternity Incentive Scheme and as an Associate on the Early Notification Team. In this role, I conducted joint clinical reviews with solicitors, clinical experts, and legal teams, gaining detailed insight into breach of duty, causation, and liability. I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
