Professional Experience
I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1993 from Exeter University. I am currently employed as a Senior Bank Occupational Therapist in a busy district general hospital working clinical bank shifts. I work in many clinical areas involving acute care with patients in general medicine, surgery, trauma, and complex needs. This involves planning for discharge based on predicting the immediate and future needs of patients, liaison with individuals, their families, multiple agencies, companies, accessing rehabilitation, equipment and service provision to meet their needs.
My areas of specialism include complex needs (long term conditions and elderly care), particularly working with renal patients and vascular amputees, many of whom have ongoing needs and frequent the hospital at different times in their life journey. I have worked in acute renal care since 2013, and with vascular patients for a similar amount of time.
In addition to my clinical bank work, I also work in higher education in a lecturing post in Health and Social Care. My role is currently building a new foundation degree, apprenticeship course for aspiring Allied Health Professionals. I am seeking to develop and inspire the next generations of health professions, sharing my own skills and knowledge along the way.
Professional Development
I maintain my professional development and HCPC standards by attending relevant training.
Medico Legal Experience
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
