Professional Experience
I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2013 and have worked across public and private sectors with individuals experiencing physical health restrictions and mental health conditions.
My clinical background has provided insight into the challenges of living with disabilities that affect participation in valued roles and activities. I am experienced in delivering compensatory strategies and interventions to address limitations arising from a range of physical health conditions, injuries and mental health disorders and cognitive impairments.
I currently specialise in supporting individuals to maintain independence at home through assessments for adaptations and equipment. I manage a varied and complex caseload, conducting holistic assessments to ensure tailored support that promotes independence and quality of life. I produce reports with clear clinical rationale to justify recommendations and present complex cases at managerial panel meetings, where assessments are scrutinised to ensure equity in provision of mandatory and discretionary funding for adaptations. I work collaboratively with social care and community health teams to ensure needs are addressed by appropriate professionals.
Caseloads may continue for several years due to waiting lists for complex adaptations, requiring regular reviews as needs and circumstances change. My interventions are informed by prognosis and recognition that functional needs may alter over time. I apply clinical reasoning to recommend adaptations that meet both immediate and long-term requirements. I review medical evidence and link this information to functional assessments. I ensure reports are completed on time and work flexibly to prioritise urgent cases, reducing risks and supporting independence.
Professional Development
I maintain my professional development and HCPC standards by actively engaging in self-directed continuing professional development (CPD) to stay informed about new equipment and adaptation solutions. This knowledge allows me to propose innovative solutions for cases where standard equipment or adaptations may not be suitable.
Medico Legal Experience
I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
