Professional Experience

I qualified as a Paediatric Nurse in 2006 and have many years of experience working in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). I currently work as an Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ANNP).) based in a Local Neonatal Unit. I provide autonomous, high-level medical care to neonates from 23 weeks gestation, including assessment, diagnosis, and clinical management. My role involves daily patient reviews, presentation of clinical findings to multidisciplinary teams, and decision-making regarding treatment plans. I am proficient in advanced neonatal procedures including intubation, central line placement, and cannulation.

My responsibilities extend to the delivery suite, where I attend high-risk births and respond to neonatal resuscitation emergencies across the neonatal unit, delivery suite, and postnatal ward. I hold an advanced life support qualification and contribute to simulation-based resuscitation training. I also perform newborn examinations and manage common neonatal conditions such as jaundice and suspected sepsis. As a member of the infant feeding team, I support breastfeeding initiatives across neonatal and postnatal settings.

Professional Development

I hold a Master of Science in Advanced Clinical Practice (Neonatology), completed in 2014, following six years of tertiary neonatal nursing experience. My academic background also includes a BSc in Paediatric Nursing and a postgraduate qualification in the care of the sick neonate. I am actively involved in staff development, including performance management, clinical teaching, and mentorship of nursing and medical colleagues. I deliver training on both practical procedures and the theoretical principles underpinning neonatal care.

I regularly participate in clinical governance meetings and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. This includes reviewing and updating procedural documents and clinical guidelines in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, ensuring they remain evidence-based and clinically relevant.

Medico Legal Experience

I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
I have given oral evidence as an expert witness at Coroners Inquest.
