Professional Experience

I qualified as a nurse in 1999 and have extensive experience in anaesthetic and recovery nursing, as well as school nursing. My roles have included Anaesthesia Associate, anaesthetic nurse, recovery nurse, and secondary school nurse. I currently work as an agency anaesthetic and recovery nurse, and as both a permanent and agency secondary school nurse, averaging two shifts per week in each area.
In anaesthetics and recovery, I have worked continuously since 2001. In 2005, I completed formal training at the University of Hertfordshire to become one of the first Physician’s Assistants (Anaesthesia), now known as Anaesthesia Associates. This role enhanced my skills in airway management, pre-operative assessment, and cannulation, and involved delivering general anaesthesia under supervision. My clinical competencies include pre-assessment, central and peripheral cannulation, airway management (including endotracheal and supraglottic devices), conscious sedation, medication administration, patient monitoring, and direct support to anaesthetists. I have also contributed to clinical auditing and staff training.
In my role as a secondary school nurse, I assess and manage a wide range of injuries and illnesses, including sports-related and head injuries, and determine when escalation or referral is required. I am also trained in venepuncture.

Professional Development

My training as an Anaesthesia Associate provided advanced clinical skills and broadened my scope of practice in perioperative care. I have maintained ongoing professional development through varied clinical roles and responsibilities, including teaching and audit activities and attending relevant training.
