Professional Experience

I qualified as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) in 1993 and in 1998, I obtained dual registration as a Registered Nurse (Child). I have spent my career working in Urgent and Emergency Care, specialising in paediatric emergency nursing. Practising as both an Emergency Nurse Practitioner and Paediatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner across Urgent Treatment Centres and Minor Injury Units, I deliver autonomous, evidence-based care. My career spans district general hospitals and specialist paediatric centres, with a strong foundation in advanced clinical assessment, decision-making, and management of acutely ill and injured patients in high-pressure environments.

Professional Development

In 2003, I completed a Master’s degree in Nursing, specialising in the Paediatric Nurse Practitioner pathway. This advanced training enabled me to take on senior clinical roles and contribute to service development in acute paediatric care. In 2006, I transitioned into academia, holding a substantive post as Associate Professor in a higher education institution. I now hold the honorary title of Emeritus Associate Professor. My academic work has focused on integrating clinical expertise with research and education, ensuring that healthcare professionals are trained to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-informed care. I continue to support clinical education and service improvement initiatives, particularly in urgent and emergency care settings.
