Professional Experience

I qualified as a nurse in 1993 in the Philippines, specialising in medical-surgical nursing and nursing management. Early in my career, I contributed to the establishment of a new nursing service office in a Department of Health hospital, where I developed protocols and guidelines across all nursing departments. I was also responsible for staff scheduling, training, and accreditation in a mother-baby friendly facility.
Since relocating to the UK in 2001, I have worked in emergency and critical care settings. In 2006, I transitioned to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where I have remained, working across multiple NHS hospitals. In my current role as a Senior Specialist Nurse in ICU, I provide advanced nursing care to critically ill patients requiring multi-organ support. My clinical expertise includes:
• Respiratory support: managing oral intubation, tracheostomy and laryngectomy care, and mechanical ventilation (invasive and non-invasive), including weaning protocols.
• Cardiovascular support: administering vasoactive medications to maintain cardiac output and blood pressure in patients with stroke or shock.
• Renal support: initiating and monitoring dialysis for acute kidney injury.
• Nutritional support: managing nasogastric feeding, blood glucose monitoring, and insulin administration.
• Neurological care: maintaining safe sedation levels in ventilated patients.
• Post-operative care: managing patients following major abdominal and palliative surgeries, including colostomy formation.
I also hold leadership responsibilities, including shift coordination, staff supervision, and mentoring of junior nurses and student nurses. I liaise closely with the nurse-in-charge and medical teams to ensure continuity of care and address clinical concerns.

Professional Development

Alongside my clinical work, I completed the academic requirements for a Master of Arts in Nursing, with a focus on nursing management. I have consistently maintained and expanded my clinical competencies through ongoing professional development, including advanced life support training and critical care updates. I actively support the development of junior staff through bedside teaching, supervision, and structured feedback, contributing to a culture of learning and clinical excellence within the unit.

Medico Legal Experience

I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
